Mastering the Pinch Technique in Pottery

Step 1: Prepare Your Clay

Start by kneading your clay to remove any air bubbles. This process, known as wedging, prepares your clay for shaping. Once your clay is smooth and pliable, roll it into a ball.

Step 2: Create the Initial Pinch Pot

Push your thumb into the center of the clay ball, leaving about a quarter inch of clay at the bottom. Then, pinch the walls of the clay with your fingers to create a bowl shape.
